Summary of Position

An Animator creates the motions, gestures, and expressions of three-dimensional computer graphics characters and objects.

General Duties and Responsibilities

Receive with each assigned shot: storyboards, story reels, recorded dialogue, set layout, and direction. The Director shows each new sequence in layout and describes what is expected for every shot at a “blocking meeting”
Read soundtrack and plan shot
Block in movements in rough animation and show for the Director’s approval in a daily review
Refine and finish work for Director approval
Attend animation dailies
Deliver work in a timely manner

Background and Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years professional animation experience required
Ability to use acting skills, which bring characters to life, as well as clearly communicate simple ideas with which an audience can empathize
Strong understanding of traditional animation principles
Strong attention to detail
An art background, which shows a thorough understanding of physical motion, weight, balance, texture, and form
Proven storytelling skills
Must have an online demo reel that demonstrates application of the principles of animation to tell a story with meaning through movement
Ability to work collaboratively
Must be open to direction and able to embrace change
Degree or certificate in classical animation, film, or related field, or equivalent production animation experience

WK3 Productions Inc. is seeking an experienced Lead Animator for the third season of Wild Kratts animated series.

The responsibilities include:

Providing full character animation including posing, animation and lip sync in Toon Boom Harmony
Troubleshooting and producing complex animation cycles and stock reuse
Working closely with the Animation Director on integral scenes
Working with the Head Researcher to ensure the science is accurately reflected in the animation
Providing creative ideas and working under tight deadlines
Completing all assigned shots within required timelines

Requirements:

MUST have character animation experience
Must be proficient in Toon Boom
Experience with animal animation is an asset
Strong sense of timing and acting, with an emphasis on clear storytelling
MUST be willing to work in-house (Kanata, Ontario)
Strong work ethic, communication skills and a team player

About the Position:

The VFX Artist is an energetic and enthusiastic individual with strong VFX skills and experience in visual effects for broadcast television or feature film production. The VFX Artist excels at creating high calibre dynamic and riveting visual effects while at the same time meeting production deadlines.

They follow the creative direction of the production from an FX standpoint and report regularly to the Visual Effects Supervisor informing them of any concerns or new developments.

Responsibilities and duties:

Construct creative solutions for recurring visual effects in TV production
Be aware of what is happening on the team at all times and identify problems to the Lead
Train and mentor new Effects Animators and compositors who are placed on the crew and explain production methods
Create complex effects sequences as assigned by the Lead/Director
Identify to the Visual Effects Lead problems that could potentially affect timelines and delivery schedules
Respect and adapt to the Nerd Corps system of data storage and retrieval through the use of the in-house software
Balance the creative needs and technical resources available
Ensure that all production deadlines are met while providing work at a quality level in keeping with production requirements.
Carry out duties in a professional and positive manner
Create and deliver FX for the series in a timely manner
Train the junior staff and make sure they are working using the proper methods
Create and deliver show specific FX in a timely manner

Qualifications and competencies:

Able to multi-task and prioritize
Intermediate understanding of 3D texturing, modeling and lighting
Advanced understanding of compositing.
Advanced knowledge of XSI
Advanced knowledge of particle systems
Creative with timing and color
Work well in a team atmosphere
Able to take directions and work independently
Very good at improvising and problem solving
Good on being able to predict upcoming problems with production and communicating those problems/concerns to the Visual Effects Lead
Good communication skills
Thrive in a high pressure, deadline oriented environment
Degree/diploma in fine arts or animation or equivalent experience an asset
Experience as an FX Animator or equivalent experience

Another art show, from the always-delightful, Tammy Semen! The poster, as usual, is by Kyle Marshall. This one appears to be a Roald Dahl theme, and Tammy seems to have forgotten to ask me to participate. (note: I sometimes misjudge my ability to be humourous. Tammy does an amazing job of getting NEW artists every year for her shows, so my nose is in no way out of joint.)

About the Position:

The Storyboard Artist interprets the script into images and sounds that best convey the story and characters presented by the writer while maintaining a quality consistent with the respective series/production plan and coordinate all the images and sounds that make up the show. They manage his/her time effectively and efficiently in order to complete the production on time.

Responsibilities and duties:

· Create Thumbnails and Boards from a script and/or Storyboard revisions based on the script and the notes from the Storyboard Supervisor.

· Ensure that the production for which he/she is responsible is completed on time.

· Consult with Supervising Director as to the technical feasibility of elements in the script and suggest creative solutions that will maintain the vision of the series.

· Study scripts to determine artistic interpretation and design boards in conjunction with the Supervising Director.

· Communicate ideas effectively and recommend solutions to help interpret the script visually.

· Consult with Supervising Director to approve the final storyboard panels and make revisions as needed.

· Maximize the re-use when the production schedule calls for it.

· Overall, be aware of the show/series continuity

Qualifications and competencies:

· 3+ years of experience in industry.

· Strong understanding of animation timing and posing .

· Strong understanding of facial expressions.

· Strong understanding of camera manipulation, composition, and framing.

· Familiarity with 3D animation and the strengths and weaknesses of CGI animation.

· Superior understanding of filmic storytelling principles and techniques.

· Deadline motivated.

· Critical thinking skills.

· Planning and management skills.

· Ability to communicate processes, plans and concepts.

· Ability to create entertaining and persuasive messages.

· Ability to present specific viewpoints.
