The 2D Paint Supervisor’s primary responsibility is to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Clean Plate/Prep Comp team, ensuring that all the tasks are created according to the specifications outlined for productions they oversee. This role will require close partnerships with the production management team, VFX supervisor, and research and development team.

 

2D Paint Supervisor Tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Supervises and trains the Clean Plate team to deliver expected and desired results for each film.
  • Collaborates with others on ideas, and takes action to improve company processes and procedures as they pertain to the Supervisor’s areas of responsibility.
  • Ensures and maintains quality across the project while adhering to technical specifications and a high level of confidentiality adopted by Legend3D as best practices.
  • Consults with VFX Supervisor to define and follow through on the technical feasibility of workflow and suggest production-friendly solutions that will maintain the downstream needs of the pipeline.
  • Works with I.T. and other department managers to troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Oversees employee timesheets on a macro level, monitors overtime, and approves vacation requests.
  • Inspires a culture of passion, teamwork and personal growth.
  • Participates in various committees as needed.
  • Keeps abreast industry news and developments as a means to help foster internal growth of the company.
  • Creates efficiencies in pipelines to project and eliminate overtime per project.
  • Directs and guides the overall workflow on schedule and on budget, balancing artistic and productivity requirements, in tandem with production management.
  • Works with Producers, H.R. and the production analyst to make sure that all projects are properly staffed
  • Actively participates in the recruiting and staffing of clean plate teams; assesses prospective candidates and recommends hiring decisions.
  • In consultation with the Production Management and Department Leads, assigns work to artists based on their individual skills and strengths.
  • Reviews the work of each artist on a regular basis and approves shots for submission to the Compositing Supervisors.
  • Partners with production management and Human Resources to guide artists’ overall professional development, providing performance feedback, mentoring, resolving performance management issues and maintaining positive morale amongst the crew.
  • Liaises between management and artists to ensure effective communication throughout the production team.

 

Requirements:

  • 5+ years’ work experience required in 3D CG for digital animation or visual effects film.
  • A reel demonstrating Compositing work is required. Work should include shot breakdown.
  • Demonstrated team leadership and project management experience is required.
  • Strong eye for detail regarding precision, color, perspective and motion.
  • Proficiency in plate/camera tracking, alpha matte creation, painting, de-graining, re-graining, film plates, and color correction of plate elements is required.
  • Expertise with Nuke is required.
  • Demonstrates artistic ability and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication (written and verbal), interpersonal and organizational skills required.
  • Ability to learn quickly and assimilate new information.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment, both independently and within a team environment
  • Ability to work effectively with and oversee a diverse collection of individuals.
  • Proficient in compositing and animation is desirable.

 

Working conditions:

  • Must be able to remain seated in a stationary position for the majority (up to approximately 80{f2e86ea6af82e2bb048871abf045622abf0ed27fb513932dc1ee8c05a54cbefd}) of a shift
  • Must be able to use hands/fingers to operate a computer and other office machinery
  • Will be working in a low-lit environment, and may be subject to eye strain
