Lighting/Compositing Supervisor

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Lighting/Compositing Supervisor works with the Lighting/Comp APM to help create schedules, with the Department Head to create staffing models, and with the Pipeline Supervisor to enhance the Lighting/Compositing pipeline. The Supervisor assists the Lighting/Compositing Leads in the resolution of technical issues.  This role collaborates with the Art Director and the VFX Supervisor to help integrate the lighting and compositing tasks into the direction of the film. Promotes the success of team members and general morale within the studio.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
-Work with the Lighting/Compositing APM to help create schedules
-Work with the Department Head to create staffing models
-Work with the VFX Supervisor and Pipeline Supervisor to design efficient workflows and build upon and enhance existing Lighting/Compositing pipeline
-Assist Lighting/Compositing Leads in the resolution of technical issues
-Troubleshoot and debug shot problems
-Escalate technical issues as required
-Assist Head of Lighting/Compositing by providing feedback for annual review process
-Collaborate with Art Director and VFX Supervisor to achieve desired finished look of all visual elements
-Monitor overall progress of the specific project within Lighting/Compositing department
-Collaborate with members of other departments as necessary to ensure proper completion of shots and to ensure a smooth production
-Promote success of team members through provision of general support and guidance
-Promote/maintain department morale, motivation and positive thinking
-Remain current and up-to-date in lighting/compositing techniques through industry research and training
-Perform additional duties as required

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
-8+ years of CG and VFX lighting and compositing experience, with proven knowledge of and skills in each (prior Lead or Supervisory experience an asset)
-Feature film experience required
-Completed post-secondary education in classical or 3D animation, art fundamentals, or other relevant area of study
-Advanced working knowledge of Maya’s lighting techniques and a thorough knowledge of Mental Ray
-Advance knowledge of Fusion, Nuke or similar node-based compositing package
-Python and UNIX knowledge an asset
-Strong leadership skills with the ability to recognize strengths and weaknesses of artists to establish Lighting teams
-Strong background in traditional art with an excellent sense of colour and light
-General understanding of animation styles and techniques as well as an excellent comprehension of animation production for film and/or television
-Great understanding of the animation production pipeline as a whole with an understanding of adjacent department workflows as well as how the Lighting and Compositing Department interacts with the overall production process
-Superior creative and technical problem solving skills with the ability to check own work
-Ability to learn quickly and comprehend custom in-house production tools
-Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with key stakeholders (i.e. other departments, production, clients, etc…)
-Demonstrated ability to work productively and willingness to take initiative in a team environment
-Ability to prioritize tasks, meet tight deadlines, and perform to standard in a fast-paced environment
-High level of independence and strong sense of reliability
-Ability to balance multiple priorities while retaining and encouraging a high level of enthusiasm and excellence within the team

Compositing Supervisor

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Compositing Supervisor works with the Compositing APM to help create schedules; with the Department Head to create staffing models; and with the Pipeline Supervisor to enhance the Compositing pipeline and with the Compositing Leads to oversee the overall quality of the shots. The Supervisor assists the Compositing Leads also in the resolution of technical issues.  This role collaborates with the Art Director and the VFX Supervisor to influence the aesthetic and technical “look” of the compositing and promotes the success of team members and general morale within the studio.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
-Work with the Compositing APM to help create schedules
-Work with the Department Head to create staffing models
-Work with the VFX Supervisor and Pipeline Supervisor to design efficient workflows and build upon and enhance existing Compositing tools and pipeline when required
-Assist Compositing Leads in the resolution of technical issues
