2009 in review?

I’m slowing recovering from the blur that is Christmas and was wondering what you guys might have to say about this past year.  It was a great one for me, and, while as an industry, we certainly felt the pinch in ’09, I think we’re set up for a pretty intersting 2010.  But what do you, the animation community, think about this past year?  What were the highlights?  The big stories?  I know that Pixar Vancouver grabbed a lot of headlines, and the Feature industry saw a bit of a boom, but I’d love to know your thoughts on the year that was, and what you think the yea to come has in store for us.

Please leave a comment below, or email me at mv@canadiananimationresources.ca

Cheers!

    Hi Mike!

2009 was a tough one for a lot of us East Coast animators, a few shows that were supposed to happen didn’t happen, a few places shut down, and I know a lot of very talented artists who chose to go back to school to retrain in completely different fields. We still boast a strong field of artists out here, but it would be nice if 2010 brought a return to stability for us. It’s been 2 years of catch as catch can with fingers crossed for better and more consistent things. There are some positive indications for some large series to happen here in Nova Scotia in 2010, and I think we will all be okay. Hopefully 2010 brings prosperity and happiness as well as artistic challenges to all of us. Cheers!

I worked as much as I didn’t. Six months off, Six months on, Six months off, Six months on, etc.

Honestly…. I didn’t mind one damn bit either. Saving is smart, and when you save enough while you work you can have a six month vacation. It`s actually quite wonderful. I just hung out with friends, messed around and drew, and came up with ideas and enjoyed my hobbies during my time off. Can`t really complain.

    …Good thing I don`t have kids! Hah!
