This was posted to OpenFile today, an article outlining the recent and upcoming moves of Toronto animation houses Chuck Gammage and Pipeline Studios, out of the GTA to Hamilton, Ontario. Tax credits play a part, as does cheaper overhead and other factors. I’ve also heard rumours of at least one east coast studio also looking at Hamilton for a move.

I have always wondered, especially in the age of digital pipelines, why this hasn’t happened sooner.
The Hamilton area has a ton of potential with it’s obvious close proximity to airports as well as T.O., not to mention it is affordable for both the employer and employee.
I wish the companies mentioned continued success….it would be great to see another animation hub develop.
