Events: Cartoon Connection Canada-EU application

Following up on my earlier post, I heard back from Azarin Sohrabkhani, who runs TAC.  She provided us with the following info:

TAC and the Ottawa International Animation Festival are very excited to
announce CARTOON CONNECTION Canada-EU, a new networking event
co-organized with the producers of Cartoon Forum and Cartoon Movie. With
the help of MEDIA INTERNATIONAL, Cartoon will be bringing over 40
European animation producers, broadcasters and distributors eager to
meet their Canadian counterparts to the event.

We are now accepting applications from Canadian producers who are
interested in participating in this event. The philosophy behind Cartoon
Connection (which has also run in Korea and Argentina) is intense
networking within a small group. Attendance will be capped at 100. This
means we can only take 60 Canadian delegates and we are asking that only
one producer attend from each company. A basic selection process is in
place to determine both Canadian and European delegations. Invitations
for the Canadian delegation were sent to producers and production
companies listed in our Canadian Animation Directory.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The goal of CARTOON CONNECTION is to allow you to expand your
professional network.

Sample Delegation:

Follow the link below for a run-down of the Europeans who participated
Cartoon Connection Korea. Interest in the Canadian edition is extremely
high, so we expect a high-caliber delegation.

The event will have two components:

• Information sessions about the distinct markets to understand how each
of them works, analyzing the reality and the difficulties of
European-Canadian co-productions through case studies

• One-on-one meetings (10 minutes for each meeting) which will allow you
to meet European professionals and present upcoming projects (for
cooperation or co-production) or existing series and/or films (for sales
and distribution), while getting the run down on European projects.

ALSO: Should co-productions between Canada and Europe eventually be
signed, the Canadian producers will be entitled to participate at the
two biggest co-production animation markets in Europe (Cartoon Forum for
TV series and Cartoon Movie for animated features).

When will this take place?

The event will take place before and during TAC at the Chateau Laurier
in downtown Ottawa. Opening the evening of Monday, October 18 at a
networking dinner, Cartoon Connection will run until Wednesday, October
20, overlapping TAC. Regular TAC activities such as Fast Track, Pitch
THIS! and some networking events will run until Thursday, October 21.
Your participation in TAC is encouraged and highly recommended for
further networking opportunities.

How much does it cost?

We are still in negotiations with funders to keep the cost of this
additional event as low as possible. Participants must purchase a TAC
Animapass or TAC Only pass in order to be take part in Cartoon
Connection (starting at $400 CAD). You may incur an extra fee for the
Cartoon Connection portion, if funders are unable to fully support the
event. This information will be disseminated once a final delegate list
is determined.

How to Apply?

Please follow this link to access the application form. The deadline to apply is August 13th.

So that’s what I’ve got.  I’ll do my best to pass on any new info as it becomes available.
