from the internets (update)

Cartoon Network just put out a press release with a whole slew of programming announcements.  There’s a lot of live action.  Yep.  I’ll leave that analysis to Amid at Cartoon Brew.  There’s also a lot of pretty cool sounding cartoons though (including Adventurtime, and something executive produced by Superjail’s Christy Karakas).  As far as the Canadian contingent goes, there’s a Total Drama offering in there.  But I wanted to highlight one bit in particular, the new Looney Tunes show.

Here’s the description:

The Looney Tunes Show: A new half-hour animated comedy series starring Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. No longer confined to 7-minute shorts, Bugs and Daffy are out of the woods and living in the suburbs among such colorful neighbors as Yosemite Sam, Granny, Tweety and Sylvester. In addition to each episode’s main story, The Looney Tunes Show also features “cartoons within a cartoon.” The Tasmanian Devil, Speedy Gonzales, Marvin the Martian and other classic characters sing original songs in two-minute music videos called Merrie Melodies and the Road Runner and Coyote are featured in 2-1/2 minute CG shorts. This all new series is produced by Warner Bros. Animation. Sam Register (Teen Titans, Ben 10, Batman: The Brave and the Bold) is the executive producer. Spike Brandt and Tony Cervone (both Duck Dodgers, Back at the Barnyard, Space Jam) are the supervising producers.

What I want to point out is that our own Jessica Borutski is the lead character designer on this puppy.  She’s been working out  of her home here in Ottawa and has been shouldering the enviable and risky task of updating the classic characters in her own unique style.

Yay Jess!

The Looney Tunes SHow, how original!!!

Why doesn’t CN green light more FUN, innovating ideas like Manny and Kahn, which was made for CN’s Cartoonstitute?

Ah well, i guess they’re trying to raise a new generation of Looney Tunies. Can’t beat the originals though.
